New partnership opens up wealth of opportunities for SMEs

handshake

In a move that will delight innovative SMEs throughout the country, Jumpstart has entered into a strategic partnership with another leading name in the research and development space.

The deal between Pera Technology, Europe’s most successful new product development (NPD) contractor, and Jumpstart, the UK’s leading technical R&D tax relief specialist, will give manufacturing and engineering companies greater access to £2bn worth of research and development funding. This financial support will come from a combination of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 fund, which provides grants of up to £2m for businesses looking to develop new products and processes, and the UK Government’s R&D tax relief scheme, which allows companies to reclaim money invested in qualifying research and development.Centered around Pera Technology’s aptly-named leap® offering, the partnership with Jumpstart will provide a major boost to enterprising SMEs in the UK.

Commenting on the collaboration, Jumpstart’s Managing Director Brian Williamson said: “Manufacturing is such a vital part of the UK economy, and with so many small and medium firms contributing throughout the supply chain, across a variety of industries, it’s vital that they receive as much financial support as possible. Whilst R&D tax credits and Patent Box have proved to be an invaluable support mechanism for innovation, the third and vital element in any NPD strategy has to be financial support and partnering to form a complete business strategy. We’re delighted to partner with Pera Technology to provide manufacturers with another valuable avenue to financial support.”

Ian Claris, Director at Pera Technology, added: “Horizon 2020 represents a fantastic opportunity for SME manufacturers to access funding for the purpose of R&D, and specifically to help them with the realisation of their NPD ideas, and ultimately with the commercialisation of their new products for release into the marketplace. Small and medium sized manufacturing and engineering firms contribute millions of pounds to the UK economy and Horizon 2020 provides a perfect opportunity for businesses to create innovative new products and processes. We’re looking forward to working with Jumpstart to help spread the word even further amongst the business community and ensure manufacturing businesses continue to innovate and prosper.”

Sharing Jumpstart’s scientific approach to business, Pera Technology has been providing technical support for the research and development of new products and processes at its engineering labs in Melton Mowbray for nearly 70 years. The company has a strong track record of leveraging public funding, having secured in excess of £70m for businesses over the last seven years.

Add to that the millions of pounds in R&D tax relief that Jumpstart has helped hundreds of firms to apply for and claim since 2008, and it’s easy to see how manufacturing businesses will benefit from the partnership’s range of support services.
